I feel much better now but I'm being careful about what/how much I'm eating for the next couple of days to be on the safe side.

My Aunt Mari Tere's schnauzer had puppies recently and she brought them over for me and my mom to see them yesterday. Their eyes haven't open yet and they were so pudgy and had the tiniest paws ever. They are so cute (all six puppies were girls btw) My aunt says that when they're older, she's going to let me adopt one of them.

So far I'm undecided between a white one that looks like the mommy and a black one with a white patch on her chest but all of them were adorable. She says that she's going to let me see them again when their eyes open. *A*

The electricity went out in the apartments that we rent out. This is where we keep our property's modems so the internet went out too. We couldn't get anyone to fix it since yesterday and today was a holiday.

I have no clue how the internet's working right now. I assume the residents plugged one of the modems in the section of the apartment building where the electricity still works but I am very happy.

So that's basically why I was missing for two days.

I woke up last night and saw a scorpion climbing down the wall behind my bed. This is the fourth one this month and for some reason they always show up in my side of the room.

...it rained again today.

It's been cloudy/raining here for days. It seems like the market stands have been canceled/postponed due to the weather. Either that or they were moved to a random location in town like my Mom said they did last year. A bit of a shame, because I really wanted to buy some sugar skulls and paper decorations. Maybe if the weather gets better, I might be able to buy the skulls in a local candy store that I remember sold some when I was here two years ago...And then I'll be torn between wanting to eat them and wanting to decorate my room with them.

It shouldn't even be raining right now. The rainy season for Oaxaca is between June-August with maybe some scattered showers in this month but...

I really hope this weather clears up by Day of the Dead.

In other news, my Mom and I are probably going to start setting up our altar for the holiday around Saturday or Sunday and my Mom is thinking of buying some Pan de Muerto tomorrow :9 And I really regret leaving the camera in the US right now.

The power keeps going out along with the internet. I'm this close to just calling it a night.

At least I got my tags done.

My aunt Martha Elena, my mom and I went to the Independence Day celebration in central park last night. They had lots of food stands and I stuffed myself with churros and one a dog-shaped piggy bank in a marble game.

And they had a mariachi band play as well as a band from the House of Culture played the national anthem as some athletes from the high schools in the area run past city hall with flags.

And then at 10:30 PM the mayor went to the top of city hall and gave The grito while ringing the bell. Then the churches of the cathedral started ringing to while everyone in the park chanted along. People blew whistles and toy trumpets. Then to finish everything off, there were fireworks!

I'm a bit sad I'll be back in the United States and won't get to go to the bicentennial celebration next year but I'm glad I finally got to see the ceremony for the first time this year!
